New Year’s Run 2024

My brain gets weird after exercise and I end up registering for races, like this one.  So here we are at 5pm on New Year's Eve, in the dark at Eau Claire (lovely Eau Claire, on the brink of demolition).  It is very warm indeed for December, Kevin is actually wearing shorts.

It is so wonderful to see friends at these events.

The route goes out across Prince's Island park, west along Memorial to the 14th St bridge then back on the south river pathway.  It is surprisingly (and shittily) icy especially along the north side of the river.  We get stuck behind a poodle at the start then my headlight gives up so it was not a speedy endeavour.

Getting outside with other people and moving is the best thing you can do for your brain.  There's a lot to deal with over the festive season and I know I needed a break.  Just remember to put new batteries in your headlamp.  That's probably a metaphor there.

Some nice new hardware for all of us.  What a great way to start a new year.

The raspberry scone was magnificent as were the oranges.  The Running Room did a lovely job of post race snacks.

Instead of non committal grunting when people ask what you did for New Year, isn't it so much better to say 'did a 5k'?
