Iceland - from Reykjavík to Jökulsárlón

Wow.  What a trip; Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, all the flights, all the currency, all the food, a half marathon, more food.  We chose to fly with Icelandair since they offered a free stopover and the price was basically the same as flying to the UK with any other airline.  It is a 6 hour flight from Edmonton to Keflavik (then another 2 hr flight to Glasgow).  At the end of a hectic trip a 2 night stopover in a natural paradise was exactly what we needed.  I've never in my life seen so many glaciers and waterfalls.  Iceland is otherworldly.

On our one full day we drove along the south coast from Reykjavík to Jökulsárlón and back, stopping off at every damn thing sights along the way.  It was a 14 hour day and we covered 800km.  Totally worth it.

I can't do it justice in words, here are a few of our pictures:

Reykjavík
Seljalandsfoss
Skógafoss
Skógafoss downstream
Reyniskirkja
Reynisfjara Beach
One of many many waterfalls along the way
Glacier along the way - we passed a lot!
Jökulsárlón Lagoon - our destination
Black sand beach near Jökulsárlón
The other end of Reynisfjara had puffins!

We chose that 'one big thing' we felt we couldn't miss (Jökulsárlón) and were entirely blown away by all the other sights en route.  We tried to drive there direct but every time we saw something interesting we had to stop.  The weather was gorgeous, we were prepared for rain but ended up in T-shirts.  If you're looking for a different, stunning, magical trip this is one to consider.

Until next time Iceland!
