Stealth Fat, a 5k and Beyonce

I finally registered for the Pittsburgh 5k on the weekend, here is the route map!  We start at PNC Park, cross the Andy Warhol bridge then end in downtown.  This race is a great chance to take some pictures and enjoy everything so I'm not planning a fast one.  Hopefully this will also be a great run to shake the marathon nerves out.

With 8 training weeks left until Pittsburgh I took a good look at myself.  I even took pictures, which I will spare you (you're welcome).  I need to lose 11 lbs to get back to my race weight of 128.  I have fallen victim to something I call stealth fat.  In December I had my second successful DietBet then promptly gained the weight back and then some.  My weight has gradually edged upwards ever since.  I didn't really notice until my jeans got tight recently.  Stealth fat.

I'm not going to do another DietBet right now.  The solution will be as simple as making good decisions.  (Decisions that involve avoiding Wendy's).  My incentive is visualizing the start line and how I want to feel on it May 4.

I may have mentioned this already but I've been taking weekly Zumba classes since October.  Only I haven't been, not even close.  We started a new set with a new instructor last week and I was horrified to find myself subjected to an hour of Latin ballroom-y music.  Apparently this is what Zumba is supposed to be.

I managed to locate my last instructor at Heavens on Saturday.  They have renamed our awesome class 'Pulse'.  It was magnificent.  I took Kev and we enjoyed a very high energy hour shaking our bits to Beyonce and her friends.  His verdict?  "I didn't hate it".  Success!

  1. Keep up the good work! That sounds like a fun race. I've never done DietBiet but it seems just about every other blogger has tried it or is on it. I think it's great that you are visualizing the start line. That's something I need to do! Have fun at Pulse! Sounds like so much fun.

    1. Essentially because you're online and have a deadline DietBet makes you accountable. Not always the right fit as there's a huge focus on scale numbers which can really fluctuate, not on how you look and feel. My 2 cents. Thanks Crystal!

  2. Haha stealth fat is a great way to put it! I swear it comes out of nowhere...obviously bad eating habits lead to weight gain for me...I just can't say no to carbs during marathon training!

  3. The 5K really is awesome. We make ourselves start near the middle-back, so we can't run it too fast. This year, my hubby is running with me, so he'll probably run it normal speed, so we'll see how it all goes.

I hear you, I need to lost about the same amount. I've started lifting weights with my hubby, I'm hoping that will get rid of it, plus the extra XT classes I'm doing.

    1. Changing things up sometimes is the key, fingers crossed for a difference by May.

I hope we get a chance to say hello in Pittsburgh - I'm guessing it will be crazy busy. I'm running the 5k with Kev too unless he gets bored of my picture taking and shoots off ahead.
