Planning the California trip

Right now I am looking out the window at an all-out balls to the wall freezing blizzard.  It is 3 weeks to our LA trip (and back-to-back half attempt) and it's time to start planning the details.

I already went shopping for a couple of new running tanks, I wanted something nice and bright for sunny Cali.

We arrive in LA on Thurs evening, on Friday we will go to the Expo for pick-up then on Sat April 6th at 6am we will run Half #1.

The Hollywood Half

Our hotel is right by the start line on Hollywood & Highland but it looks like a Metro or walk back afterwards.

Right after the race we will have chocolate milk and fruit in the room and a super veggie and fruit packed smoothie from Jamba Juice.  Check out time is noon.  Then we're off!

The drive north from Hollywood to San Luis Obispo takes around 3 hours, not including stops to play on the beach.  There are several Cheesecake Factories en route and we are planning to eat there on the way out of LA, healthy options of course.

I'm going to get some compression recovery socks to help my poor legs, so we will look fabulous on the drive up.  Do they go with sandals?

Package pick up in SLO is 11am  until 7pm.  Journey time means missing an incredible Expo lineup, with photographer Luis Escobar presenting "Running with the Tarahumara" at 11am then Dean Karnazes presenting "Going the Distance" at 2pm.  Damn.

On Sunday April 7th at 6:30am, we will run Half #2.

The San Luis Obispo Marathon (Half)

We are staying at The Madonna Inn right on the finish line.  All the rooms are themed, and ours (the Wilhelm Tell room) has a 'rock waterfall shower' - let me at it!

Maybe I'll take this in with me.

On Monday we drive back to LA for a day at the beach then back home on Tuesday.

Right now I can't even imagine being in a place where it's warm enough to run in shorts!
